Want to feel great at the end of 2020?
Here are three ways to be more creative so you can achieve more of what you want in 2020 – both in your life and in your work.
First, here are a couple of questions for you:
Are you starting the year dreading going back to a job or work that you’re not enjoying, that you’re finding very stressful?
Do you know there is more out there for you, but you don’t quite know how to take the leap?
Yes? Then maybe you need to change how you think – to be more creative in 2020.
Where is this coming from?
I’ve discovered that I have a gift:
- For looking at things differently
- For finding new ways to think about things
- For making connections, others may not see
So, here are some of the strategies I’ve developed for solving problems.
“Moving from stuck to unstoppable means coming up with new ways to look at the world – and that means learning and self-discovery. Trusting yourself to come up with creative new solutions is key!”
Doing what you’ve always done has got you here and might just keep you here.
So, here are some ideas to get you thinking differently about your work in 2020. You need new ways to think – to get creative – but how do you do this?
Creative thinking for a better 2020
Get creative when it comes to learning about yourself.
Confidence comes from knowing yourself and understanding your limiting beliefs. Confidence comes from knowing what makes us tick.
To become confident, you’ll need to:
- Become curious
- Spend the time to think, really think (Where is your place to think?)
- Be very, very honest with yourself.
And while you’re doing all this – Notice what you’re thinking!
Ask yourself why? Why do I think that? And then ask Why? again, and again…
For example, I’m exhausted. Why? Stressed. Why? Doing too much. Why? Because other people leave it to me. Why? Because I’m critical if they don’t do it the way I think they should. Why does that matter? …and so on until you get to the very core, where it resonates.
Another great question I use is: What’s that about?
For example, I’m creating my business plan and budget for 2020, setting my Ebook and online course goals. So I’m thinking about how many women’s lives I wanted to change in 2020.
Finally, I picked a number, and then I asked myself: Am I limiting my thinking? Why? Where does that come from? What’s that about?
And voila! That uncovered some limiting beliefs that I’ve had to work through.
And now? Well, I’ll share something with you. I have decided that my work will change 1,000 women’s lives in 2020.
So if you are going to understand yourself better, then ask the hard questions.
- Why is it like that?
- Why am I thinking that way?
- What’s that about?
When it comes to our jobs, our work – we think we need to have more knowledge, learn more skills, to work harder.
What we really need is to know ourselves better. Then we can build better relationships, work smarter – not harder, and be well-placed to spot opportunities.
Get to know yourself better in 2020.
Test creative ideas
Crazy ideas are okay. Making mistakes is okay. Not knowing all the answers is okay. It’s all learning!
Here are some questions to get you started:
- How can I create one new possibility – no matter how small?
- What’s the one thing I can do to change the way I feel about this problem?
- What can I do to change things for the better?
- What opportunities are out there that I’ve never considered – how do I find them?
- What can I stop doing – what can I let go of?
- If I could change one thing right now, what would that be?
- Whose permission do I need?
Task: Get clear on what you want!
My challenge to you is to focus on this one thing for 3 months.
Committing to 3 months will stop you from getting distracted and is long enough to see the result of the steps you’ll take.
If it’s changing jobs, then create a 12-week plan. Nothing fancy. Just write a few notes down. And, each day, decide, “what’s the one thing I can do today that will move me towards my goal?”
Ask yourself that every day and take that one action every day.
For example: building this online business and the She Loves Life Over 50 community started more than four years ago from very slow beginnings. Hell, I didn’t even know how to set up a domain or a website. But I’m always learning and taking the next step.
Baby steps work!
It’s about starting and keeping moving, one baby step at a time.
Get some help to think differently
The way you’ve been thinking has got you to here. But if you want things to change, then you need to find a way to think differently.
Seek out one person who can be your guide/mentor. It could be a formal arrangement like a coach – or it could be someone you know or even an online contact or friend. Find someone who thinks differently from you.
Personally, I recommend that this is someone you can meet up with; however, you don’t have to know them or meet them in person. Many teachers/guides/coaches online put out excellent free material – websites, podcasts, youtube videos, books, etc.
The key is to ask good questions.
- Reflect. Take the time to think. (For me, ideas become more evident when I write them down, especially when I’m writing for this blog.)
- Ask yourself: What would this mean for me? Why not? (There’s that WHY again!) What’s stopping me from hearing this message? Where’s the resistance coming from? What limiting beliefs are holding me back?
- Be honest with yourself.
I know it doesn’t always seem that way, but what have you got to lose by going for it. Do you want to be where you are now this time next year?
“Deep down, you know exactly what you’re capable of. There’s even moments where you get a glimpse of all the potential you have. You can get there. You just have to be willing to sacrifice the habits, things and situations that are standing in the way of your success.”
1. Get creative – learn about yourself. Get really curious. Ask why? That’s a valuable skill to learn.
2. TEST ideas. By asking new and different questions.
3. Get help. A coach, guide, mentor – formal, informal, or even online.
4. Take the time to reflect. Be honest.
